In a joint operation by the Guardia Civil, National Police and representatives from the Tax Office, eight people have been arrested for drug trafficking

In a joint operation by the Guardia Civil, National Police and representatives from the Tax Office, eight people have been arrested for drug trafficking and one ton of hashish intended to be landed at dawn along the coast of Murcia, has been seized.
The boat in which the drugs were being carried had a false bottom, allowing for the hashish to be hidden- However, the ship suffered a mechanical fault and had to summon for assistance. Officers were already monitoring the ship, and waited at the harbour of Cartagena for their booty to arrive.
The investigation began in February of this year when a criminal gang, specialising in the smuggling of hashish into Spain, was first identified. Investigators found that the group were transporting the drugs from Morocco to various points along the coast of Valencia and Murcia, using rigid hull inflatable boats with powerful engines. Officers successfully identified all the members of the gang and the roles that each of them played.
Investigators became aware that there was to be a shipment and prepared to intercept the craft. They were not prepared for the ship to break down, some 20 miles off the coast of Murcia, when the craft suffered an engine failure, leaving a ton of hashish floating adrift.
Once reaching land, the three drug dealers carried the boat onto a trailer attached to an SUV and left the port with two other people were waiting with the vehicle. That is the point that the investigating officers intervened.
The operation culminated with the arrest of five men and a ton of hashish being seized, which was not only found hidden in the boat, but also under the seats of the vehicle and in the trailer. Further investigations resulted in the arrest of three other members of the group, a woman in Cartagena and two other men in Alicante.
